Mechanical engineering blog | Rotary Dampers | Ball Bearings | One-Way Clutches | Torque Limiters

In the previous blog, we introduced the types of bearings.
For example, bearings are used for drawers, it helps to move smoothly.

Today we would like to explain about the inner mechanism of ball bearing.

Ball-bearings have balls between the inner race and outer race.

This is the difference compared to rollers.
Ball bearings are superior in durability because they receive force at "points" rather than "surfaces".

Lubricating oil or grease is used between the balls and inner race.
If not necessary, we can provide bearings without grease.

Ball bearings with grease
・Pros: High durability
・Cons: Slight rotation resistance occurred

Ball bearings without grease
・Pros: Possible to use in liquid
・Cons: Low durability

In case of TOK products, non-grease type of bearings have "GN" in the product name.
